By wishing just to go to another school which was better and closer to her house Linda Brown revolutionized the way our education system was set up forever in America. In 1951 the NAACP sued the United States Board of Education and led to the demanding of desegregating the schools because it was unnecessary and the facilities were not equal. The court was pressured by the decision of Plessy v. Ferguson and thus made the decision to cancel segregation in public schools.

LAD #36 Truman Doctrine

Post WW2, there was still several instances where tension was felt between the USSR and America. The Truman Doctrine is seen as a response to the tension that was felt in America, Russia and Greece. As a result of the soviet blockade over Greece, the Truman Doctrine was created to show the United States need to join in helping Greece and also preserving their democracy.As a result of the Truman Doctrine, the US was seen as the world guardian preserving democracy for those nations who needed it.

LAD #35 FDR's Executive Order #9066

FDR's executive order #9066 was an order that FDR and his commanders were never before allowed to do, and that was allowing the Japanese to be put in internment camps, separated from other civilians and also allowed our government to keep them under surveillance. Of course this was a violation of these citizens rights but it was seen as a necessary step to keep the American people safe. Germans and Italians were also allowed to be ordered around for the supposed safety of our American people. This caused several American people to be livid by the poor treatment of the several thousand immigrants who were new to this country.

LAD #34 FDR's Declaration of War

On December 8th 1941, FDR made the famous speech after the bombing at pearl harbor asking congress to declare war as a response to this act of terrorism. FDR was confident in our militaries power of our military combined with our country joining together could result in a defeat of the Japanese. By asking congress what could possibly happen if we allowed the Japanese to get away with this and receive no punishment. The bombing of pearl harbor along with the other violent acts done by the Japanese, FDR along with the rest of America felt that it was necessary to defeat the Japanese and get America back on track to regain their title as the worlds superpower and make the Japanese pay for their actions.

LAD #33 FDR's First Inaugural Address

Franklin D. Roosevelt's First Inaugural Address goes down as one of the most memorable speeches of all time, his famous quote "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" has served as a guideline and source of motivation for many after his famous speech. He began to talk about The Great Depression and how it doesn't have to be as bad as people are making it seem. This first address showed to our nation that FDR was an optimistic leader who could take our country out of a depression and to levels never before. He mentions the poor condition of our country at the present time yet he mentions the possibilities of where we could be in the future. FDR suggests several solutions to the problems such as making more farming goods and decreasing the overall cost of the government. He finishes by saying electing a strong leader was key to lead the nation out of a crisis and back on their feet again.

LAD #32 Kellogg-Briand Pact

This was a treaty signed by the United States and eleven other nations regarding the reunification of was as an instrument of national policy. And any nation that signed the treaty for their own benefit then they would be denied benefits of the treaty. This was to benefits and hopefully cause a decline in war, the United States were responsible for holding up the original treaty and any other nations added would be included. A year later, four more countries would be added, this was all created by Frank B. Kellogg and Reaffirmed by Henry L. Stimson.

LAD #29 Keating-Owen Child Labor Law

This law was created in 1916 to stop all child labor in America and to end the interstate trade of products made by children. Recent census' were collected and showed several million children were working in dangerous factories. This law was created to set an age requirement at either 14 or 16 and was also created to improve working conditions by lowering the children's working hours.

LAD #28 Wilsons First Inaugural

IN Wilson's first inaugural address he highlights the social reforms and political reforms in order to improve society. He spoke of the work ethic and morals of the American people. He went on by explaining how corrupt the Industrial Revolution was and how it had to be fought against. By claiming the governments hands off policy towards big business' should be ended and basic sanitation laws, pure food and working conditions will be passed for the people. He wanted to reform the nation rather than destroying it and that reform is necessary.

LAD #27 Clayton Anti-Trust Act

in 1914 the Clayton Anti Trust Act was created as a response to the Sherman Anti Trust Act, which was used against unions. The Clayton Anti-Trust was created to prevent companies from rebates, inter corporate stock holdings and price cutting. It was basically the Sherman Anti Trust except strikes weren't restricting trade, which was basically for the workers.

LAD #26 MLK's "I Have a Dream' Speech Summary

At the Lincoln Memorial in March 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. had his famous 'I Have a Dream' speech surrounded by several hundred thousands of people who were all there to support his main cause, civil rights. This speech was about how one day we could all envision equality as something similar. MLK felt as if The Emancipation Proclamation wasn't doing the African American community justice and as a result they were still being oppressed. He encouraged all of the negroes to stand up to racism along with white americans to beat racism together. And that one day his children will be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin

LAD #25 Dawes Severalty Act

The Dawes Act of 1887 which was approved by congress was responsible for relocating Native Americans to sections of land each person is assigned, this land is also allowed to be watched or surveyed at any time. This act also continues to describe how much land each Native American is allowed to have. If the native Americans were not given land then they would be permitted to move elsewhere in the United States. This document said that it would only be in effect for 25 years. And once this time period was up the president could decide wether or not to extend the life span. The government said that this was going to benefit the Native Americans by living under United States law and supposedly having equal rights as Americans.

LAD #24 Bryan's Cross of Gold Speech

Bryan opens up his speech by saying he could rival the talented politicians in order to gain the Democratic nomination. He also says that the race is a matter of principle and that he supports the humanitarians running. Bryan claims that every working man is a business man and the most successful businessmen who are pioneers belong to a group known as the Eastern Elite. He defends families against the "aggregated wealth" he supports the newly found unconstitutional income tax law and is against common Democratic beliefs. It is clear that he is confident that his party will win the election and finishes his speech by saying that the U.S. should switch to bimetallism before the other nations do and become ahead

of the whole world as a result. 

LAD #23 Populist Platform

In the Preamble, the Populists give an inflamed introduction to their beliefs, primarily emphasizing how they pledge to correct two primary evils: the broad degeneration of society to build up the few wealthy bond-holders, and the faults of a solely gold-based currency.

In their official platform, they lay out their more specific goals if they were to be elected:
That labor unions will forever be supported
That wealth belongs to the ones who earned it
That the government will start managing railroads and intervening monopolies
And that any land held unnecessarily by railroads or by aliens be reclaimed for use by legitimate settlers, due to the poor management previously

LAD #22 McKinley's War Message

President McKinley gave his war address on April 11th, 1898. In this address, he said that the war in Cuba should be ended for four main points. First he said to end the uncivilized actions in Cuba because it is their obligation as the powerhouse of a country the United States, and how close Cuba is to America. The second reason is because for the greater good, America should free the people of Cuba and allow them to have freedom of life and property. Third, the failure to free the Cubans would result in a devastating  loss to commerce, trade and business, also the destruction of land and property of the Cuban people. The fourth reason that President Mckinley chose to help free the people of Cuba was that the war was a threat to the American people. McKinley argued that in the name of humanity to end the Cuban War, and even after the war is ended the American people should support the country as a whole. Lastly, he mentions that Spain had recently informed America that they were planning on ending hostilities, but not if the conflict in Cuba still existed.

LAD #18 Dred Scott Decision

The overall decision of the Dred Scott case was very controversial. The supreme court justice acted the same as John Marshall and sat on the case and did nothing. The end decision was that Dred Scott was considered property and could not be freed. This was one of the main reasons why the republican Abraham Lincoln had been elected into office the following election due to the northerners resentment towards the verdict.

LAD #17 Sojourner Truth: Ain't I Woman?

Sojourner Truth's speech was revolutionary for all women at this critical transition period for women and African Americans as a whole. She begins by saying women work just as hard as men and go through just as much as them yet they are treated poorly. At a time when other people rarely saw the other side of the pancake, this was eye-opening because many women began to realize that the way they were bing treated wasn't right and there was room for improvement. Her comparisons between women and men were very accurate by saying that Christ was born from a woman and by denying other women of equal opportunities they aren't representing their church the way they should be treated. Sojourner Truth's speech was one of many in this time period addressing issues from then that still relate today in very similar ways.

LAD #16 5th of July Speech Fredrick Douglass

In Frederick Douglass' speech he explains the meaning of The Fourth of July for the African-American population. Frederick Douglass goes on by saying he supports the signers of the Declaration of Independence for putting the people before their wants and needs. He also says that America has been contradicting due to the fact that slavery goes against the freedom they fought for. Douglass further extends his negativity towards the slave trade and comparing the treatment of slaves to animals, he also says negative claims about the profits made in the slave trade. Frederick Douglass continues the argument by saying churches who aren't speaking out against the poor treatment of African-Americans and not standing up for the people as a whole. Frederick Douglass also calls American principles as inconsistent by only giving some people individual rights and freedoms. Douglass closes his arguments by saying the anti-slavery movements will over-power the negativity faced towards the African-Americans.

LAD #13 Calhoun's Address to the Senate

Calhoun's address to the senate begins with him addressing the issue of slavery. He begins by saying the 3/5 compromise was a necessary compromise to balance the amount of representatives. Now he says that the including of 5 new states will create an unconstitutional unbalance in the senate, this is also controversial due to the fact that the South has no new states for admission. Calhoun also believes that tariffs are separating our nation and giving the north a benefit. Calhoun also believes that if the North gives the South its rights to represent new territory, return fugitive slaves, get over slavery. Calhoun believed this would create and equal representative in the government.

LAD #12 Polk's War Message

Polk's war message is a detailed explanation for America's right to invade Mexico. Polk first sent diplomats to negotiate peace in Mexico, but in the height of the revolution the Mexican government decided that it wasn't necessary to negotiate peace with The United States. As an alternative, Mexico went to war with The United States and several deaths resulted in this war. Despite all of the deaths, Polk felt that the war was necessary.

LAD #11 Seneca Falls Declaration

The Seneca Falls Declaration is a document written and modeled after the declaration of independence the Seneca Falls Declaration describes the certain unalienable right for both men and women. The Seneca Falls Declaration describes the importance of women and how their rights aren't being protected and they aren't viewed as equals in society. The Seneca Falls Declaration ALSO has a list of the discriminating acts towards including denying women the right to vote, right to enter colleges and certain places of education, etc.
